All for Love
Great Love Affairs … Great Stories
Megan Gressor & Kerry Cook

‘How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.’ Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s famous words perfectly describe this book. All for Love includes the story of her devoted relationship with Robert Browning, along with 37 other remarkable real-life romances from ancient times to the present day.

The stories are as passionate as they are diverse, encompassing Bonnie and Clyde on their infamous crime spree, Shah Jahan building the magnificent Taj Mahal as a monument to his love for the beautiful Arjumand, the ill-fated love of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, and ‘the love that dare not speak its name’ between Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas. The marriage of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly began as a fairy tale and ended in tragedy, as did Isadora Duncan’s tempestuous marriage to the young poet Sergei Yesenin. Ted Hughes and Vincente Minnelli both found love with fragile women: Sylvia Plath and Judy Garland broke their hearts. But there are also happy endings: comedians George Burns and Gracie Allen made each other as happy as they did their audiences; Gertrude Stein’s partnership with Alice B. Toklas lasted for almost 40 years; and after many setbacks, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are together at last.

Joy, obsession, adventure and tragedy all feature in this splendid collection, a companion volume to the same authors’ international bestseller, An Affair to Remember.

Megan Gressor and Kerry Cook are Sydney-based sisters who have long shared a fascination for the history of romance. Megan Gressor is a journalist, editor and critic. She is the author of six non-fiction books. Kerry Cook is a teacher, television scriptwriter and author of a novel and three works of non-fiction. All for Love is their second book in this series, following their earlier collection of love stories, An Affair to Remember.
