Paul Keating was Prime Minister of Australia from December 1991 until March 1996, when he was defeated by John Winston Howard and his Liberal Party-led coalition. At the age of 25, in 1969, he became the nation’s youngest federal legislator after being elected to the House of Representatives. He joined the Australian Labor party at age 15, one year after leaving school.
